The Place Based Learning Center is seeking a Children’s Programming Operations & Camp Manager to support needs related to residential and day children programming and to manage activities and staff of the Residential Summer Camp Programs.
This position reports to Place Based Learning Center Director, supervises Interns and Summer Camp Counselors, and works collaboratively with all members of the Place Based Learning Center and other co-workers at HVA.
School Year Program
Daily Scheduling of staff for program activities
Outreach to Schools for children’s programs K-12
Teacher/Principal/Parent Liaison for visiting schools
Performs hands-on activities with children on an as-needed basis, i.e. during training periods, staff vacations, etc.
Assists with animal care
Manager of six-week summer camp program with the assistance of residential, camp managers and full-time staff
Reviews residential and field camper applications and determines acceptances with Director
Creates and performs outreach and recruitment strategies to ensure full camp sessions
Recruits, trains, and manages summer camp staff along with other camp managers
Acts as first line of communication with campers, parents, and camp staff
Implementing an established residential summer program with room for developing new programming with other staff
Tours camp families with other staff
Develops and implements appropriate evaluation tools for all programs.
Helps in the creation and development of public relations and marketing materials for the children’s programming
Care, Hospitality, Public Awareness
Provides a nurturing, responsive environment to campers, visiting students, their teachers and chaperones
Extensive knowledge of outdoor and farm-based education, summer camp management
BA or BS degree or equivalent
Understanding of and commitment to Waldorf education
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Physically capable of performing all farm chores and all aspects of place-based, experiential programming
Excellent communication skills, written and oral
High competence with computer skills such as Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel, email and database management
Demonstrated interpersonal competence
Ability to create, plan, organize, and carry out the operational needs of the program
Love of children and an ability to engender respect for others while maintaining an open and caring attitude
Ability to discipline while being firm without being harsh
Willingness to collaborate with others
Flexibility and an open attitude to new ideas
Hours and Type of Employment
Full time management salaried position with benefits
40 hours per week during school year, more during summer camp
