Assistant Early Elementary Teacher

Lakeside School at Black Kettle Farm is a small “farm and forest” school with programming for children from birth to Third Grade. Our programming includes a parent-child play group, a Sprouts daycare program for toddlers, farm and forest Preschool/Kindergarten, and an Elementary program with grades 1 through 3. All of the programs utilize the resources of our farm and forest to deepen each child’s education and experience.
Lakeside School offers a dynamic and innovative multi-age Waldorf Elementary School classroom on a working farm. While a strong foundation in curriculum and healthy classroom management are bedrocks of the program, this 1rst, 2nd, and 3rd grade classroom has the flexibility to develop new ways of working with the students both inside the school building and on our 213-acres of farm and forest.
Working with the lead elementary teacher, the Assistant helps to provide a well-rounded curriculum for a maximum of 12 students. Our program strives to develop social and teamwork skills, so that students learn to respect each other, themselves, and nature and to work together in a positive way. Our diverse classroom spaces include an Outdoor Classroom covered shelter and play yard, a one-room schoolhouse, a 70 acre farm with orchards, gardens and a barn yard. Our programs also daily use the large adjacent diverse forest with trails, hills, streams, ponds, and abundant wildlife. Our students play and learn outdoors throughout the seasons, using our well-ventilated indoor classroom space for winter academic learning.
The Elementary students serve as peer leaders to our younger students in our Farm and Forest Kindergarten and Sprouts Daycare programs. While the faculty has strong foundations in Anthroposophy, Waldorf Education, and outdoor education, we continually look at ways to build our programs to meet the needs of the children of the North Country. We work to create a culture of collaboration and initiative.
