Lake Champlain Waldorf School is seeking a class teacher for our 2nd-to-6th-grade loop. The rising second grade class of 17 is an energetic and enthusiastic group of students who are getting a great start to their elementary school experience with our first-grade specialist teacher. This teacher will work closely with the new class teacher to support the transition. The class has a supportive parent community who look forward to a five-year relationship with the class teacher who will shepherd their child through the next phase of their elementary years.
Our well-established K-12 school is both grounded and innovative, rooted in the tried and true Waldorf curriculum while also reaching into the future through an educational emphasis on social, racial, and environmental justice. We offer a vibrant learning community, a highly capable Board of Trustees, and a clear and collaborative governance structure. Our two campuses are located in beautiful northwestern Vermont. The Lower School campus is surrounded by Nature Conservancy forest, literally at its doorstep. Since September of 2020 we have made use of our outdoor classrooms whenever possible, which complement our beautiful classroom building (with new state-of-the-art ventilation systems). In addition to offering many outdoor recreational possibilities, the local area is rich in artistic and cultural activities and features a major University and several fine colleges.
We are a close, collaborative, and dedicated group of class teachers and subject teachers, working to develop new models of teaching that serve the students of the 21st-century. We are dedicated to supporting and promoting the qualities at the heart of our mission: creativity, compassion, collaboration, and innovative problem-solving.
At LCWS class teachers are responsible for core academics, social studies, art, and the school-wide anti-bias curriculum, as well as tending to the overall social life of the class community. Class teachers are supported by specialists in music, world languages (Spanish, Mandarin, and Abenaki), handwork, and gym. Programmatic support in math and ELA is available, as well as student educational/social/emotional support. Class teachers are key members of the Lower School Branch and participate collaboratively in making the decisions that affect their students. This is a full-time position.
