It is an exciting time at the Santa Cruz Waldorf School (SCWS). After successfully developing a rhythm around the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, we look forward to the opportunities that the academic year 2022/2023 brings. With a reinvigorated commitment to diversity, growth, clarification, and strengthening, we can’t help but feel enthusiastic about what the years ahead hold for our school.

We are seeking a Learning Support Coordinator to join our faculty at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year.

The  Learning Support Coordinator will be responsible for

  • Implementing Waldorf-oriented approaches to serve students needing extra support, both by offering group activities and individual sessions from Kindergarten through grade 8.
  • First Grade Sensory Assessments - Assessments of each age-appropriate student applying to the rising first grade using the Waldorf approach.
  • Waldorf-oriented Second Grade & Fifth Grade mid-year assessments.
  • Tracking student progress and therapies and facilitating parent-teacher communication regarding the Educational Support Plans and Individual Educational Programs.
  • Providing regular communication and guidance to families, class teachers, and specialty teachers in order to best meet the needs of students who require extra support.
  • Participate in assessment interviews during admissions.

Our new colleague will be an enthusiastic and experienced Learning Support Teacher; a trained remedial teacher who cares about the sensory, emotional, and educational challenges many students experience, understands IEPs, and knows how to serve students using the Waldorf approach. Working closely with our Care Group, the Learning Support Teacher will deliver healing remedial education to students in grades K–8.  Creative and enthusiastic, they enjoy working with a team of colleagues. They seek a school with a strong vision, energetic colleagues, and clear leadership. They are able to solve problems with discernment while maintaining confidentiality of student, familial, and organizational information. They seek a challenging yet supportive, home-like school environment where they can grow professionally and personally. Initiative, dependability, and a strong inclination for collaboration are key attributes to the success of the candidate.

Inclusivity and diversity are core values at SCWS and we celebrate them. We are committed to the active practice of diversity, equity, and inclusivity principles in our curriculum, enrollment, community, and festival life. We are actively anti-racist in our approach to pedagogy, policies, decisions, and structure. We believe that diversity enriches our learning and work environments by exposing us to a broad range of ways to understand the world, identify challenges, and discover and deliver solutions - thereby allowing our entire community to thrive. SCWS is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate in admissions, hiring, or employment practices on the basis of race, sex, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, marital status, age, or other statuses protected by law. Diverse candidates and those under-represented in our community are encouraged to apply.
