Pedagogical Support
Responsibilities and Duties
The Pedagogical Support must have a sound educational philosophy, background, and vision grounded in Waldorf education. The Pedagogical Support demonstrates leadership capacity to guide the pedagogical development of the school and works closely with the administration and faculty.
Human Resources
Responsible for review and selection, working with the hiring committee’s recommendation for hiring; Developing employment contracts where appropriate, supervising, and supporting the faculty and staff.
Educational Leadership
Oversees development, implementation and evaluation of the educational program/curriculum
Consults with staff and Board on program alignment to school mission and vision
With staff leadership, develops, implements and monitors the professional development plan for the whole staff
Monitors school-wide assessment and accreditation (WECAN, AWSNA, NEASC)
Willing to substitute and comfortable in all classrooms and curriculum
Co-plans parent education events and speakers with staff
Assists in the creation of a master schedule and block plan aligned with the schools vision and mission
Leads faculty in pedagogical culture and demonstrates positive school directorship in community events
Faculty Supervision
Ensures that each teacher develops a yearly professional development plan
Supports mentors to ensure curriculum goals are executed
Completes yearly classroom teacher evaluation process
Carries an awareness of educational trends within and external to the Waldorf movement
Offers teacher support through problem solving, delegation, adaptive perspective, supportive feedback and strong leadership
Upholds healthy lines of communication regarding pedagogical issues among and between the faculty,board of directors, parents and greater community
Facilitates healthy feedback, timely follow through, and accountability for the school’s pedagogical mission. Works with the administration to oversee the faculty-hiring process and recruitment efforts
Works with administration to oversee the faculty support, mentoring and evaluation processes
Oversees faculty committee work, including proper documentation of committees for healthy institutional memory
Meets with administrative staff for communication and collaborative problem solving
Board of Trustees Liaison
Act as the principal advocate of Waldorf pedagogy to the Board of Trustees
Prepares pedagogical reports to the Board as needed or requested.
Works with the Board as needed to ensure the ongoing health of the school
Student Supervision and Relations
Works with administration in writing and implementing student policy, governance and internal relations according to pedagogical principles
Responsible for implementation of board policies and adopted administrative procedures
Qualities and Expected Skills
BA or higher degree from an accredited educational institution
Waldorf teacher and/or administrative training certificate
Experience as a teacher in a Waldorf School
Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Waldorf education, Anthroposophy, and Pedagogy
Knowledge of and connections with wider Waldorf Education and Anthroposophical organizations
Independent worker who can adapt to a continuously changing environment.
Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills
Collaborative and decisive
Accessible to the school community of students, parents, teachers, and community members
