High School

May 23

Portland Waldorf School is seeking a Waldorf trained and experienced High School Science/Math Teacher for the 2022-23 school year starting July 1, 2022. Full or part time positions are available including guest blocks.

The robust high school science curriculum, including chemistry, physics, biology and earth sciences, is taught experientially through concentrated and focused main lessons within each discipline. That focus and depth supports the students in making connections within the branches of science, as well as humanities and history. The Waldorf science curriculum teaches blocks of each science annually, engaging students with a dynamic and holistic view.

Our teachers and staff members work enthusiastically and energetically to engage their students and are dedicated to Waldorf education. They work collaboratively with their colleagues and the parent community to create an educational environment that is aligned with the school mission and program goals.

We expect a teacher candidate to hold a bachelor’s degree and have high school teaching experience. We hope for candidates with a master’s degree specializing in Physics, Chemistry or Biology. A successful teacher has a desire to work with adolescents, is adept at teaching to a wide range of student abilities and has strong classroom management skills. Teaching responsibilities include all grade levels (9-12) in blocks and skills classes.

Portland Waldorf School is a 7-acre campus comprising wetlands, fields, streams, and gardens. It stands at the intersection of city and country, drawing its strength from east access to river and island, as well as farmland, forest, public transit, and urban environments.

The Portland Waldorf School was founded in 1982 and is fully accredited through AWSNA and Cognia.  We serve students in Early Childhood through 12th grade, offering a full curriculum including middle and high school athletics.
