The Garden School welcomes applications for a Grade Class Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. The Class Teacher carries the responsibility for the developmental needs, the emotional and social health of the class, composed of up to 14 students. The teacher represents the school to the parents of the children in their class, and must have a high degree of experience, enthusiasm, and commitment to Waldorf educational principles as well as confidence and competence with the curriculum.

This position works with the administration and all colleagues to ensure that school educational standards are met. The Class Teacher holds a shared responsibility for the successful functioning and growth of the school through support, active participation, and timely completion of school wide duties.

Successful candidates will enthusiastically and imaginatively engage students and will work collaboratively with other faculty and administrators to create an educational environment that is aligned with the school mission and program goals. A Waldorf teaching certificate or current enrollment in a Waldorf teacher training program is strongly preferred.  Our campus includes 11+ acres of unlevel forest area which comprises our outdoor classrooms.  It requires the ability to navigate uneven terrain, pull wagons loaded with supplies and the cleaning of outdoor facilities.

  • Love of children and teaching, empathetic disposition, and ability to think outside the box in a “student-centered” program.
  • Excellent communication skills, both with colleagues and children, and the physical strength and stamina to hike with a backpack.
  • A commitment to multicultural and inclusive teaching and communication and a familiarity with anti-bias education.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

Position Availability:  Newly hired teachers must be available for teacher inservice before the start of the school year in early August, as well as inservice for the week after the school year is over. We expect all teachers to be committed to self-development, parent education, and teaching to the whole human being. Teachers are expected to participate in weekly faculty meetings (Thursday afternoons from 2:30 - 4) and some committee work. Attendance at school events, parent evenings, and festival celebrations is required. Compensation is based on experience and Waldorf training with a base salary at $30,000, plus increments for experience.
