We are looking for a Waldorf teacher for our combined 3-4 Grade class. The Lakota Waldorf School is a small and quickly developing K-8 Grade school located in the South Western corner of South Dakota. In the center of the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, we are surrounded by the rolling plains and breathtaking badlands. The nearest city is Rapid City, 80 miles north west of Kyle, SD. The mission of the Lakota Waldorf School is to provide a Waldorf education integrated with Lakota language culture, enabling our children to create positive futures for themselves and their communities.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a fully trained Waldorf teacher, with a strong interest in Lakota culture/Lakota language and is dedicated to Waldorf approach to education and its anthroposophical foundations. All our staff is significantly committed to their classes, the individual students’ academic and personal progress, and a cooperative relationship with colleagues and parents.
Position Summary: The 3-4 grade teacher will be part of a team of teachers working in the lower and middle school. The primary responsibility of the grade teacher is to teach the whole class throughout the year, supported where appropriate by specialist subject teachers, and is the primary contact person for pastoral matters in the class and for parents. At the Lakota Waldorf School, all teachers attend weekly Lakota Language classes to support their integration of the language in the daily classroom. The Employee joins a group of teachers, staff and board members who work with the philosophy, purpose, and curriculum of Waldorf Education and who seek excellence in the teaching of the children. The teacher is considered a full-time employee with 40-hour weeks.
