Lake Champlain Waldorf School is seeking a class teacher for our second grade. The rising second-grade class of 17 got a great start to their elementary school experience with our first-grade specialist class teacher. This teacher will work closely with the new class teacher to support a smooth transition. This is a cheerful, enthusiastic group of children, eager to meet their new teacher.
Our well-established K-12 school is both grounded and innovative; we are deeply rooted in the traditional Waldorf curriculum while also reaching into the future through an educational emphasis on social, racial, and environmental justice. We offer a vibrant learning community on two campuses in northwestern Vermont. The Lower School and Early Childhood campus (K-6) is surrounded by Nature Conservancy forest, literally at its doorstep. Since September of 2020, we have made use of our outdoor classrooms whenever possible as a complement to our beautiful classroom building (with new state-of-the-art ventilation systems).
We are a close, collaborative, and dedicated group of class teachers, subject teachers, and administrators, working to develop new models of instruction that serve the students of the 21st century. We are dedicated to supporting and promoting the qualities at the heart of our mission: creativity, compassion, collaboration, and innovative problem-solving.
At LCWS class teachers are responsible for Main Lesson, core academics, arts, and the school-wide anti-bias curriculum, as well as tending to the overall social life of the class community. Class teachers are supported by specialists in music, world languages (Spanish, Mandarin, and Abenaki), handwork, and gym. Collaborative, programmatic support is provided in math and ELA, as well as student educational/social/emotional support. Class teachers are key members of the Lower School Branch and work together to make the decisions that affect their students. This is a full-time position.
