Grades Teacher

Potomac Crescent Waldorf School

Alexandria, Virginia Remote

Full time

Sep 13

Potomac Crescent Waldorf School seeks a Grades Class Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year to join our vibrant Waldorf school in historic Old Town Alexandria. While we have been in Northern Virginia for over 20 years, we are moving into our newly renovated long-term location and are excited to start a new chapter in our school’s history. The parks in our neighborhood have a view of Washington, D.C., across the river.

Our Grades program goes through the fifth grade. Our Grades class teachers are responsible for teaching their classes from 8:00 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. On Thursdays, they teach from 8:00 a.m. until noon and participate in faculty meetings until 3:00 p.m. Duties include the following:

-Planning and teaching developmentally-appropriate daily main lessons, certain specialty classes and extra main lesson classes based on the indications from Rudolf Steiner and PCWS’s articulated curriculum plan;

-Coordinating with specialty class teachers;

-Securing all supplies and materials needed for the daily lessons;

-Maintaining a clean, orderly, and beautiful classroom;

-Writing comprehensive, narrative year-end reports;

-Working closely with class parents through regular communication and by scheduling, organizing and hosting four parent evening meetings and two parent-teacher conferences during the year;

-Working with the Director of Admissions and Enrollment and the Grades Department to admit families into the Grades program.

Our Grades teachers are active members of the school’s collaborative faculty, and they participate in weekly faculty meetings, Grades Department meetings, and committee work. As such, the candidate must be able to work cooperatively with colleagues and engage in school events and festival celebrations. We support faculty study, Waldorf conference and professional development opportunities as much as possible.

The ideal candidate will have a confident classroom presence with strong social and communication skills and a love for children and teaching. We are seeking candidates who have a bachelor’s degree and either have completed Waldorf Grades training at an AWSNA-accredited teacher preparation program or have great potential to succeed in this position and are receptive to mentoring and a commitment to future training. This position is exempt.
