The temporary High School Spanish teacher is responsible for leading the 9th-12th advanced Spanish classes following the quarterly
plan created by the teacher on leave, and following the general schedule for the flow of classes. Class sizes range from five to 16
students. A general outline of the class process will be available as well as resources to provide structure for lessons.
The commitment is for January 9th through March 10th, 2023 (a total of nine weeks).
General topics include:
● 9th grade
○ Grammar: Present tense of all regular verbs, many irregulars, and stem-changing verbs; Ir and the immediate future
tense; Indefinite articles; Possessive adjectives
○ Vocabulary: Activities, places, and frequency; Weather expressions; Family
● 10th grade
○ Grammar: Demonstrative adjectives; Comparisons; Preterite tense of all regular verbs, many irregulars, and some
stem-changing verbs; Reflexive verbs; Informal affirmative commands (review) and all formal and informal
commands (affirmative and negative)
○ Vocabulary; Clothing and shopping; Health and routines; Celebrations
● 11th grade
○ Grammar: Imperfect tense; Preterite vs. Imperfect distinctions
○ Vocabulary: Travel; navigating a city; Vocabulary in context through language play
● 12th grade
○ Grammar: Uses of the subjunctive; Imperfect subjunctive (formation and uses)
○ Vocabulary: In context through culturally significant fiction and some non-fiction
Inherent tasks include:
● Expanding and shaping the Spanish curriculum to meet a full range of student needs from Heritage Speakers to students with
learning challenges
● Stimulating the intellectual, artistic and will capacities of the adolescent through methodologies and curricula that engage the
students in daily listening comprehension, speaking, reading comprehension and writing skill development
● Providing thorough and useful feedback on student work. Tracking grades for assignments using Canvas in a timely manner
● Communicating with parents and other faculty about specific student concerns and needs
● In collaboration with the on-grade language teacher, producing and directing the 11th grade Spanish language play
● Attending High School faculty meetings
Applicants should have (as corroborated by professional references):
● Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish and English
● The ability to manage a classroom for emotional and physical safety, and inspire learning engagement
● The ability both to work collaboratively with parents/colleagues and to work independently, and
● A professional demeanor
