First Grade Teacher 2023-2024
Potomac Crescent Waldorf School seeks a first grade class teacher for the 2023-2024 school year to join our vibrant Waldorf school in historic Old Town Alexandria. While we have been in Northern Virginia for over 20 years, we are moving into our newly renovated long-term location and are excited to start a new chapter in our school’s history. The parks in our neighborhood have beautiful views of the Potomac River.
Our unique salary and governance structure values all teachers and includes competitive salaries at every level. We award additional pay to recognize completion of Waldorf teacher training certification and Waldorf teaching experience. We also offer strong mentoring support for new class teachers, and we support engagement in Waldorf conferences and professional development opportunities as much as possible.
Our grades teachers are active members of the school’s faculty and participate in weekly full faculty meetings, grades department meetings, and committee work. As such, the candidate must be able to work cooperatively with colleagues and engage in the life of the school through participation in school events and festival celebrations. We value faculty study and shared artistic work.
The ideal candidate will have a confident classroom presence with strong social and communication skills and a love for children and teaching. We are seeking candidates who have a bachelor’s degree and either have completed Waldorf grades training at a teacher preparation program or have great potential to succeed in this position and are receptive to mentoring and a commitment to future training. This position is exempt.
We look forward to receiving your application! The employment application can be found on our school website, www.PotomacWaldorf.org. Interested candidates should email a letter of interest and a completed application to our personnel committee at firstname.lastname@example.org.
