El Rio Community School seeks a teacher with both public school credentials (Multiple Subject) and Waldorf training/teaching experience to serve as a class teacher in one of our second grade classes for the remainder of the school year, and potentially, onward into 3rd and 4th grade as part of the looping model at our school. El Rio Community School is located in the vibrant Lincoln Heights neighborhood in the heart of Los Angeles, and serves a diverse population of students and families from Northeast Los Angeles. El Rio is a school in its third year of operation, and as a developing school, faculty and staff have the opportunity to help shape it as it grows.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and deliver block plans and lesson plans for skills classes 
  • Be on time for the work day, and for all transitions and duties required for the position
  • Use knowledge of childhood development in planning and implementing lessons
  • Manage the classroom using student support processes and tools
  • Ensure student safety in accordance with school policies and procedures
  • Communicate and work with parents in accordance with El Rio guidelines
  • Participate in and contribute to the life of the school, including but not limited to: 
  • Faculty meetings
  • Festivals, open houses, orientations, and community outreach events
  • Parent conferences, faculty work days, teacher conferences
  • Perform recess and other duties as assigned
  • Write student mid-year, block, and year-end reports as required
  • Maintain a clean and organized classroom and workspace
  • Participate in the school’s mentoring and evaluation programs and processes
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment in managing classroom supplies
  • Adhere to employee expectations as outlined in the El Rio Employee Handbook 
  • Read, understand and adhere to all school policies and handbooks in full
  • Receive teacher performance evaluations
  • Collect student paperwork as necessary, processing or delivering to administrators as needed 
  • Fulfill legal obligations required by the school, such as medical tests, CPR training, sexual harassment training, background checks, safety training, maintaining/complete ongoing state teacher credentialing requirements as a basic expectation and job duty for the position
  • Participate in the processing of necessary legal and other paperwork related to the ongoing operation of the school

Qualifications:

  • Waldorf certification strongly preferred
  • Waldorf class teaching experience strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field required
  • Multiple Subject CA Teaching Credential required
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion
