Heart Song is calling in a Lead Grades Educator to support our first through eighth grade programming four days a week in a one room classroom setting.

Teacher’s duties include:

  • Be primary point person developing and presenting living curriculum in a one room classroom appropriate for every student in the program.  
  • work with assistant teachers to organize and deliver curriculum.  Support provided by HS staff and families as appropriate.
  • art preparation and support
  • maintain classroom in impeccable order.  Develop a rhythm in which the children are helping to clean and maintain classroom and farm spaces.
  • Assist with upgrades as needed.
  • assisting with transitions
  • develop and maintain heartfelt presence with children at the place where they come from
  • maintain comfort and presence inside and outside in all weather
  • a commitment to anthroposophy
  • weekly teacher meetings to check in with staff and assist in proper functioning of programs.

Essential to the teacher’s role are warmth, love and care for the children with a commitment to anthroposophy, care for the aesthetics and safety of the classroom and outside environment. Additionally, the teacher is able to engage each student in participation in the daily, weekly and seasonal rhythms of the class according to the principles of Waldorf pedagogy.


The LEAD Teacher implements and oversees a four day a week educational rhythm in which daily programs and activities which are designed to meet the developmental needs of the children ages 6-13. The lead teacher encourages their intrinsic enthusiasm for learning. We seek professionals with collaboration skills, an open heart, and a passion for teamwork and co-creating. We are a small and newer school looking to grow our impact in the Gorge and build models to bring waldorf education to children and families living rurally. The lead teacher would be invested in growing the children, school and a greater movement. 

Qualities we are looking for: a strong sense of personal accountability; excellent communication and presentation skills; a positive presence and the ability to create warm, trusted relationships with the children and their parents. The well-qualified candidate will have experience and knowledge with teaching in the Waldorf traditions. CPR certification, background check and continuing education will be required. 

On a soul level, we are looking for someone passionate about Waldorf education to partner with our existing teachers to build a movement in the Gorge and beyond. We deeply desire holistic and human based education for all children and believe that our work here is a service to our community as a whole. We seek a teacher who loves our children and community with strength and conviction for a pedagogy that rubs directly against the status quo. We are looking for a partner to help grow a school that will outlast the children and parents currently attending our programming.  

This is a three quarter time to full position from 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM Tuesday-Friday with an hour of prep daily. Total weekly hours are 30 but can expand with increased enrollment. 

Compensation is a minimum $25-$30 hour.  We also have a travel trailer to support transitional housing that we can offer at a subsidized rate. As the class size grows, so will compensation.
