High School Humanities Teacher

Portland Waldorf School - Milwaukie, Oregon

Portland Waldorf School is welcoming applications for a full-time and/or part-time High School Humanities Teacher. Successful candidates will enthusiastically engage students and work collaboratively with colleagues and the parent community to create an educational environment aligned with Waldorf pedagogy, our school mission, and program goals.

The High School Humanities curriculum, including social studies and literature classes, is a rich, dynamic, intentional and academically challenging course of study based on the Waldorf pedagogy of teaching to the development stage of each grade. The Humanities curriculum is taught with the goal of meeting the whole human being, incorporating academic, artistic and social elements.

A Bachelor’s degree and High School teaching experience is required; a Master's degree related to Humanities and Waldorf High School Teacher Certificate is preferred. Our teachers should stand as experts in their fields to whom the adolescent will look, and who will guide the students through experiences and questions of their age. A successful teacher has a desire to work with adolescents, be adept at teaching to a wide range of student abilities, and have strong classroom management skills. Teaching responsibilities include all high school grade levels (9-12) in blocks and skills classes in History, Government, English, Cultural Studies and Literature. Candidates who are dedicated to Waldorf education, working out of Anthroposophy, and possess a love of teaching are encouraged to apply.

Portland Waldorf School was founded in 1982 and is fully accredited through AWSNA. We serve over 300 students from early childhood through grade twelve on a beautiful seven-acre campus. We offer a full Waldorf curriculum, including eurythmy, handwork, instrumental and choral music, blacksmithing and woodworking, drama, Spanish, Mandarin, games/movement, middle and high school athletics and a high school foreign exchange program.

Salary is dependent upon education and experience. Benefits offered include health insurance, retirement plan, tuition remission, paid time off, mentoring, and professional development opportunities. Please send a brief one-page biography/letter of interest, resume, and three professional references, including phone numbers and e-mail addresses to hiring@portlandwaldorf.org.
