Founded in 1993, BVWS is a Pre-KG through Eighth Grade independent not-for-profit school. We offer a full Waldorf curriculum, including two world languages, woodworking, handwork, movement, instrumental and orchestral music, and chorus. Our full-time teachers represent a rich spectrum of life experiences along with their strengths as Waldorf educators. The school is in solid financial condition with financial reserves and four years of balanced budgets through the pandemic.
Our school is set on a five-acre campus within 38 acres of school-owned agricultural land. Adjacent to two very livable and thriving medium-sized cities, our school campus provides a wonderful rural atmosphere for festivals and community life, and contributes substantially to a rich curriculum supported by enthusiastic and experienced teachers, devoted, hard-working parents, and a healthy, energetic student body. The region is an ideal mix of rural and urban, with farms and extensive open space giving way in one direction to the vibrant college town of Boulder and in the other direction to Longmont, rated one of the best places to live in the US. Our pioneering Affordable Tuition model makes the education affordable to a wide range of families.
BVWS has weathered the Coronavirus pandemic reasonably well, constructing outdoor classrooms and operating in person for the full year. The school has followed State and County guidelines, and implemented masking for students and faculty in all grades. Our classes are capped at 18 students for the duration of the pandemic, and most classes are full. We will maintain these measures for as long as they are required by the health department, which will likely include the first half of this coming school year.
Niwot is located along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, about an hour’s drive north of Denver and close to world-class hiking and skiing. It is frequently ranked among the top ten best places to live in the United States, and is connected to the world by Denver International Airport, rated best large airport in the US.
In addition to Anthroposophical communities in Boulder and Denver, the Colorado Front Range area supports five elementary Waldorf Schools, three Waldorf high schools (two of which are in nearby Boulder), several independent Waldorf Kindergartens and numerous Waldorf home and day groups, several biodynamic farms (including the one on our campus) and a variety of Anthroposophical study groups and initiatives.
