Assistant preschool teacher for in-home program
I am looking for a loving, warm, capable, hard-working, and flexible person to be the assistant caregiver in my home-based child care program. This small preschool program is based in Waldorf and RIE philosophies. Someone with knowledge or experience in these methods would be ideal, though it is not necessary as long as you have a willingness to learn and flexibility to follow my lead.
I am a trained Waldorf teacher and have taught both preschool and kindergarten; I opened my in-home program last year and find it a wonderful way to serve families with young children.
Please read through the below details to see if we might be a good fit for each other…
** Our program has 2 teachers and 12 children (the current children range in age from 18 months to 4 years old).
** Start date = ASAP, definitely by Tuesday, February 28 with some availability the week prior for preparation and training.
** The ideal candidate would be available Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm. These hours can be slightly flexible for the right person. And more hours are available, if desired.
** The program runs out of my home and backyard; we are located in Southwest Berkeley.
** Pay will be $20-30/hour, depending on experience.
Primary duties for the assistant teacher will include: interacting with children, cooking, cleaning, assisting children with caretaking tasks (dressing, diapers, toileting, etc), involving children in age-appropriate activities, reading, playing, and having fun! A love for nature is a must as we will spend much of our time outside in the yard, in all weather.
Our main program runs 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) from 8:30 am-3:00 pm. We are also open on Fridays but the enrollment is smaller that day so an assistant teacher is not necessary; though if you would like the extra work on Fridays we can discuss possible schedules.
We follow a school-year calendar (September-June) and need someone who is available to continue with us at least until the end of the school year on June 1st. My preference would be for someone who wants to stay on long-term, through the summer and into the next school year, but that isn’t strictly necessary. I will hold summer camp for about half of the summer and someone who is available to work through the summer would be great (we’ll be closed for 5 total weeks of vacation during the summer, exact dates to be decided very soon). If desired, there will be opportunities to work during the weeks we are closed as some of the families will still need child care.
