Little Woods Toddler Program Class Teacher
Little Woods Class Teacher Position - 2023-2024
For children ages 1-3
Whidbey Island Waldorf School is seeking the Class Teacher for our Little Woods toddler program serving children 1-3 years and their families. The position has a full-time salary with direct teaching 8:30am - 12:30pm five days/week plus supervisory duties and weekly meetings. The toddler class serves up to 14 children each day (Class Teacher plus two assistants), keeping the adult:child ratio under 1:5. With three teachers in the program, we offer unhurried 1:1 caregiving of each young child in our care. The toddler classroom, with lazured walls and windows on two sides, contains its own bathroom with a large platform for diaper changing. The school is housed in a purposely designed building surrounded by 100 acres of preserved forest and trails. There are many beautiful outdoor play spaces, including a larger EC playground with a covered pavilion for an “outdoor classroom” and a smaller “Little Woods” adjacent to the toddler classroom, with its own little playhouse, sandbox and outdoor toys. Classes also have access to the trails in the surrounding forest.
The ideal candidate will be able to provide care of these very young children in a manner consistent with the principles of RIE (Resources for Infant Educarers), the Pickler approach, and Waldorf education and the understanding of child development inherent in it. They will also be a warm, caring, responsible adult with prior experience with young children. Bachelor’s Degree plus Early Childhood Waldorf teacher training or commitment to completing such training is required.
