First Grade Position
FIRST GRADE POSITION 2022/23
We are a collective of families, Waldorf teachers, and community members committed to bringing the best of Waldorf principles, sustainable living practices, and the wisdom of Hawaiian culture. Our collective is home to 35-55 families per year, with children ages 6.5-15, and we have been together on the island of Maui for over 8 years.
Our main “campus” sits on a nearly 4 acre property, laden with fruit trees, and an operational vegetable farm that serves as a living classroom for our students while offering food to the local community.
We are looking for a seasoned first grade teacher to join our community as an independent contractor. This teaching position is best suited for a gentle, kind-hearted and imaginative soul who also has the ability to have appropriate and consistent boundaries... someone who is truly a loving authority with children.
We can offer $30 an hour, with 3 paid hours each week for preparation, along with paid hourly faculty meetings that are held each Tuesday after class. (Within our community, we MAY be able to offer assistance in securing housing, or a trade situation). Our collective holds classes Tuesdays through Fridays, beginning September 5th, and has access to additional teaching assistance as needed—from credentialed teachers and tutors, to parent assistance.
This is a highly creative environment, and it is very possible for you to teach other specialty classes after school and/or Mondays if you are interested. Some of our teachers offer exciting Winter/Spring Break camps to increase their income, as well as teaching Aerial Arts, Garden Class, Violin, Choir, and more. Additionally, we come together as a community several times a year with class plays, Circus Arts performances, and yearly festivals celebrating the Hawaiian Makahiki season as well as May Day.
