Parent-Child Lead Teacher

Windsong School

Spokane, WA, USA

Part time

Kindergarten and Early Childhood

Feb 28

Windsong is seeking a lead Parent Child Lead teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.

Windsong School is an initiative school working to establish accredited Waldorf Education in the Spokane region. For the 2023-2024 school year, we are pleased to offer a robust Parent-Child program, a thriving Early Childhood program, and an expanding Grades program that includes grades 1-7 (and 8th grade the following year) as well as six specialty subjects. We have approximately 155 students currently enrolled.

Our school is located above the scenic Spokane River on the historic Mukogawa US 76-acre campus, woven through with antique walkways, quiet tree-lined streets. We enjoy trail access to the Spokane River and abundant nature opportunities. Our early childhood building has lovely large classrooms with plenty of natural light and two shared play yard spaces.

Our faculty led school shares beliefs that guide us in our work: a willingness to strive and develop, to work out of what we know about child development and Anthroposophy, to teach creatively and with love and to nurture our parent community. We have a strong in-house mentoring program.

Our parent child classes serve children birth to three and their caregiver/s. Average class size is 8 students/caregiver pairs per class and our current enrollment supports four classes with room for growth. Parent child classes are currently held on Mondays and Fridays with two classes on each day from 8am-9:30am, and 10:30am-12pm.

The colleague we seek will bring a passion for Waldorf teaching, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to supporting the life of the school as a whole. As a lead faculty member, many job responsibilities, including classroom preparations and attending faculty meetings, fall outside classroom teaching hours.

Salary and Benefits: The annual salary is $12,000. Benefits include 100% tuition remission, faculty development support and personal time off.

Points to consider before applying: Waldorf education rests on the tenets of Anthroposophy, a spiritualized philosophy that informs our outlook on the human experience. Our educational practices rest on the observations and insights of Waldorf educators who use Anthroposophy as a framework, along with mainstream research on effective educational practices and child development.

Windsong School has experienced extraordinary growth since its founding almost 12 years ago. Our workspace and campus are unconventionally laid out. This situation leads to opportunities for familiarity, much student and staff interaction, and requires a high degree of cultivated and committed camaraderie from all staff members. The benefits are manifold, but those who do not possess strong interpersonal skills may find themselves unable to enjoy the busy atmosphere.

Our mission to make Waldorf education accessible to all and the rapid school growth we’ve seen over the past years have cultivated an environment of financial prudence. A degree of resourcefulness and an ability to use simplicity as a tool will be required.
