Kindergarten and Lower School Eurythmy Teacher - 2023/24 School Year
Kindergarten and Lower School Eurythmy teacher
Three-Quarter Time—with potential for Full-time, Academic Year 2023 – 2024
Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School is currently seeking an experienced Eurythmy Teacher to work with our students in Kindergarten and Lower School classes beginning in September 2023. Our school has two beautiful Eurythmy rooms, a growing collection of costumes for performances, and students with a good foundation in Eurythmy. This is a wonderful opportunity to join a community that is committed to Eurythmy and to work together with our current full-time 6th through 12th Grade Eurythmy teacher and our part-time Lower School Eurythmy teacher to grow our program further and to create a flagship Eurythmy program. Our current Lower School teacher is scaling back her hours and will be transitioning into retirement in the coming years. While this position is 3/4 time for the academic year 2023-2024, we plan to build it into a full-time position. If a full-time position is needed for the coming year, there is the opportunity to supplement Eurythmy teaching with other work at the school, depending on ones area of interest to create a full-time role. There is also an option to cluster teaching onto 3 or 4 days. The teaching load for a three-quarter time Eurythmy salaried position would be twelve 45-minute lower school classes and two 25-minute Kindergarten classes each week.
A Nursery through Grade 12 School, Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School (HVS) is situated on a 900-acre biodynamic farm surrounded by expansive views of the nearby Catskill and Berkshire Mountains. The school is 2.5 hours north of New York City. HVS is a branch of the Hawthorne Valley Association (HVA), which supports several Anthroposophical initiatives including the Hawthorne Valley Farm and Farmstore, a Farm Apprenticeship program, a Farmscape Ecology Program, the Alkion Waldorf teacher-training program, a Place-Based Learning Center, the Nature Institute and other programs. In the coming year we are celebrating our 50th anniversary, having welcomed our first class of students in September 1973. Our Berkshire-Taconic region, straddling New York and Massachusetts, is heavily steeped in Anthroposophical initiatives including four Camphill communities, the Rudolf Steiner Library, two K-12 schools, a Christian Community Church, Steiner Books, Waldorf Publications, and numerous Biodynamic Farms and homeschool groups.
Interested applicants should have a diploma from an accredited eurythmy training program and at least one year experience teaching Eurythmy in the lower grades. We are interested in building the diversity of our staff and creating an inclusive community that supports equity by dismantling racist systems and practices. In addition to a commitment to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work that is so necessary in our age, our teachers must demonstrate an unflagging devotion to children and a strong grounding in Waldorf Education. We are looking for candidates dedicated to excellence in teaching and to developing strong, collaborative working relationships with colleagues, parents, and the wider community.
