First Grade Teacher
Wasatch Charter School is seeking a first grade class teacher for the 2022-23 school year.
Nestled in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley with breath-taking views of Mount Olympus and unparalleled access to outdoor recreation, including skiing in the mountains and hiking in the desert, Wasatch is a growing Waldorf and anthroposophical community. Entering our seventh year of operations, we are a public charter school committed to bringing the fullness of Waldorf education to life in a public setting accessible to all students. We serve 700 students from preschool through eighth grade with robust programs. Nearly all class teachers are fully certified Waldorf teachers or actively enrolled in training; specialty programs are strong with trained, full-time, consistent teachers in gardening and farming, handwork, music, Eurythmy and games, as well as part-time teachers in all of these subjects, in addition to woodworking, pottery, Spanish and folk dance. Students are supported by a rich program that integrates curative education into interventions and special education services. Teachers meet weekly in smaller teams and with the full faculty for child study, study, collaboration, sharing, and professional development. The work environment is collaborative, positive, and supportive for the faculty community.
We are looking for an experienced teacher interested in making the class journey with a newly forming first grade, as well as bringing depth and dedication to our faculty community. The ideal candidate would have Waldorf teacher certification and an elementary teaching license. However, we have an on-site licensure program that is State-approved and are able to offer support to teachers in completing these requirements for free during their teaching tenure.
We have a beautiful building located in an urban setting but adjacent to a creek and wooded public park, offering a connection to nature with easy access to the city’s amenities and the mountain’s beauties. First grades have lovely classrooms with direct access to their own play space and bathrooms. Classes serve 25 students and teachers have an assistant to work with throughout the day. Faculty arrive at 8 AM daily and students arrive at 8:15. Typically, school ends at 3:15 Monday through Thursday, with early dismissal on Fridays and time for team and faculty meetings. First grade has a shorter schedule, and teachers are able to arrange support for dismissal and leave campus as early as 1:30 Monday through Thursday, if supportive.
We are seeking a collaborative teacher who sees the therapeutic value of Waldorf education for a diverse group of modern students and wants to help build a rich program in our public school setting and growing school community. We hope for an individual with experience and creativity in working with large groups of students and heart space for meeting children, colleagues and parents with warmth and openness. Interest in integrating a curative approach to working with all students is preferred.
We offer an annual salary of $45,000 - $60,000 based on experience and qualifications (with built-in annual increases and a bump at year 5), a 401K into which the school will automatically contribute 5% of salary, and robust health and dental insurance with a low deductible and co-pay structure at no cost to an individual employee. We are able to start a salary prior to the typical beginning of the annual contract in order to help off-set any moving expenses. We also annually offer support for personal and professional development activities.
More information about the school and images are available at wasatchwaldorf.org and on Instagram at wasatchwaldorf.
Interested candidates should email Emily Merchant at emerchant@wasatchwaldorf.org. Ideally, arrangements would be made for a site visit and demonstration lesson prior to the end of May.
