The Detroit Waldorf School has an opening for an early childhood lead teacher starting in the 2023-2024 school year.

The Detroit Waldorf School is seeking an experienced early childhood class teacher who brings love, enthusiasm and warmth for working with young children, ages 3-5.  We are looking for a teacher who enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues, and in sharing the responsibilities of pedagogical, practical, artistic, festival and family engagement work. The school is committed to building a healthy, diverse, inclusive, multi-cultural community, a place where childhood is honored and adults strive to set an example for self-development that is worthy of children’s imitation. We welcome new faculty committed to working out of anthroposophy and the principles of Waldorf education to contribute to our dynamic community.  Candidates should have knowledge of child development, and strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and understand and work with the Anthroposophical foundations of the curriculum.

Strong candidates will possess a Certificate in Waldorf Early Childhood, a Bachelors of Arts degree or higher, teaching experience, ideally in a Waldorf setting, and a minimum of 6 - 12 semester hours in early childhood or child development depending upon prior teaching experience with pre-k age children.

The Detroit Waldorf School is a multi-racial and multicultural school, celebrating more than 50 years in the heart of the Detroit renaissance. We have the honor of being one of the ten oldest Waldorf schools in the United States. We offer a full curriculum and we are accredited by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America,  the Waldorf Early Childhood Association, the Independent Schools Association of Central States and our Early Childhood Program is licensed by the State of Michigan. Our school has a strong early childhood program, including a Kindergarten specific class that serves as a bridge to the grades. Our elementary program includes German and Spanish, eurythmy, handwork, arts, remedial resource program, music including orchestra and band, physical education, after school sports, artistic activities, extended care and camps programs. Our school resides in a beautiful 1920’s historical building situated on a 4-acre campus with an organic garden.

The Detroit Waldorf School offers a base salary of $43,000. Additional compensation, commensurate with experience and credentials, is added to the base salary. Full-time salaried faculty members are entitled to benefits: health and dental insurance, retirement, support for professional development, and tuition remission. The position begins July 1st, 2023.
