5th Grade Homeroom Teacher

Tamarack Waldorf School is seeking a full-time 5th Grade Homeroom Teacher with teaching experience in the traditional main lessons. This full-time position straddles the threshold between our traditional lower grades experience and the more specialized 6,7, and 8th grades.  This person will perform homeroom duties for our rising 5th Grade as well as offer a full year of traditional main lessons, including but not limited to ancient history, freehand geometry, drama, botany, and English.

For the 2022-2023 school year, Tamarack adopted a unique approach to grades 5-8 that combines traditional teacher/student matriculation with direct instruction in areas of subject specialization.  Most full-time teachers in grades 5-8 serve as homeroom teachers for a single grade and can matriculate with the class serving the groups’ social and emotional well-being.  Full and part-time teachers offer instruction in specialized fields in both the traditional morning lesson and subsequent skills schedule.  This upper grade model is continuing for the 2023-2024 school year.

Candidates should be committed to teaching with enthusiasm and warmth, demonstrating effective classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills. Candidates should also have an interest and desire to work in collaboration with colleagues and within the guiding principles of Waldorf Education. The ability to teach lessons based on the Waldorf curriculum model for upper grades students is required for our teaching staff. This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a Waldorf Teaching Certificate preferred.

A full-time salaried faculty member is entitled to benefits that include health, vision and dental insurance, professional development, and tuition reduction.  The position offers 10 PTO days, paid time off around holidays and breaks and will offer an in-house mentor as well as an outside mentor.

Our classrooms are culturally and socioeconomically diverse and our top candidate must prioritize their curriculum development to work with diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our Upper Grades curriculum model includes two world languages, handwork, art, music, physical education, and environmental education as specialist classes. We also offer our students an educational support program to meet their diverse needs.

We are a full member of AWSNA and WECAN and are located near Lake Michigan. Our neighborhood offers our students many outdoor experiences while being centrally located on Milwaukee’s east side.
