Haven of Ascension is located in Gonzales, Louisiana in Ascension Parish, nestled between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. We’re a wellbeing center and educational retreat facility offering a safe space for achieving inner transformation through mind, body, soul, and spirit healing practices. With almost 20 acres of therapeutic grounds allowing for our families and their children to de-stress and connect to nature. We provide consistent student residency during the 2023/24 school year, as well as a drop-in style educational experience for our local homeschooling families.
We’re looking for a full-time Early Education Teacher for our educational resource center for the 2023/2024 School Year. The Early Grades Teacher will nurture the development and unique capabilities of every child within the context of the whole class and the established curated curriculum. With a small student body of no more than 8 - 10 children, ranging from ages 5 - 8 years of age. Our ideal Teacher candidate will be open to guiding and exemplifying essential experiential learning experiences that enhance appreciation for nature, their fellow students, and themselves.

Qualifications

- Loves to experiment, evaluate, and improve on everything she/he does.
- Has proven excellence in written and oral communication skills.

- Is willing to be coached and mentored.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must own a computer/phone with Internet to communicate with our team.
- Must have an enthusiastic & positive attitude for success!
Responsibilities
- In collaboration with an assistant, the teacher will oversee a class of under 10, ages 5 - 8 years old.
- Prepare the class environment, including materials, unstructured play materials, so expectations are clear and learners are set up for success.
- Practice a Socratic Method at all times (instead of answering questions, guiding students to find the answers themselves)
- Launch quests (project based learning)
- Guides children in setting goals and tracking their progress
- Guide children in creating meaningful exhibitions of their work
- Seek to pass the responsibility for the class and for learning to students as quickly as possible to allow students to lead themselves
- Model an independent learner on a hero's journey through life
- Write or contribute to weekly progress
- Communicate/meet with parents as necessary
Benefits
Part time guide pay ranges between $15-25 hourly depending on experience
The salaried position includes paid holidays, paid sick/vacation days, and a job position at our summer camp (when school is out) if willing
Schedule
• Monday to Friday 9 am - 3 pm
