Assistant Preschool Teacher
Rock Rose Village School is seeking an experienced Waldorf/LifeWays early childhood teacher or a new teacher willing to learn Waldorf/LifeWays curriculum to join our school community. This position will be for our 2023-2024 academic year.
Rock Rose is a small Waldorf/LifeWays Inspired Early Childhood Center located in southern California in the Friendly Village of Fallbrook. Fallbrook is an area rich in Waldorf community, biodynamic farms, Waldorf schools, anthroposophical study groups and close proximity to WISC (the Waldorf Institute of Southern California).
Our school is modeled in part on Helle Heckmann's Nokken and we incorporate aspects of R.I.E. and LifeWays. We are currently operating a traditional parent and child program along with a recreational camp program for nursery and kindergarten ages where we are outside all day in public parks or on private lands and gardens. We divide our week with one day hiking in a local neighborhood park with giant oak trees and the rest of the week on our very own land that includes a big school garden amidst 23 acres to explore with a pond and seasonal creek.
During the course of the day we work with the children on the joy of domestic and practical work, maintaining a large garden where we grow vegetables and herbs, and including a camp kitchen where we cook organic lunches and snacks daily for all the children. Our outdoor program includes gardening, cooking, woodworking, painting, sewing, puppet shows, a Spanish program and seasonal crafts and celebrations. We work closely with parents to form a rich community that supports childhood.
We spend the entire day outdoors so our ideal candidate would be comfortable in an outdoor setting in all types of weather.
Candidates should have a strong work ethic, be excited to come to work, and have a love of young children. Experience in Waldorf early childhood education is ideal, but not required. We are willing to train candidates interested in learning specific philosophies and methods of working with children.
Qualifications:
We are looking for someone who loves children and being outdoors, is hard working, has a positive attitude, flexible nature, excellent communication skills, works with purpose and joy, and is looking to grow with our school and community. Our ideal candidate would have a BA/BS degree, a Waldorf Early Childhood teacher certification (or be in progress) and/or a LifeWays early childhood certification, 2-3 years experience, California fingerprint clearance, and 12 ECE units.
Starting Date: August 23rd, 2023
This will be a full time position with reduced hours in the summer. Compensation based on experience and qualifications. Must be able to pass the DOJ Background check. Opportunity for advancement to the right candidate.
The Support Teacher is expected and compensated to be present during certain times of the year that may be on a weekend or evening, such as the Harvest Festival, Winter Spiral, Parent Education evenings and/or mandatory training as necessary.
Please send a letter of interest, resume and at least two professional references to kara@rockroseschool.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
