ROLE: Grounds and Maintenance

The Grounds & Maintenance Member is a key figure at our school supporting the lead Farm and Garden Teachers, and Administrators in maintaining the farm and garden space, will perform important jobs for the facilities and grounds of our campus, and may have responsibilities to the animals on the farm. We welcome collaboration and ideas to help improve our school environment. Reliability and flexibility are key personality traits for the person in this role.

Qualifications and Specific Responsibilities:

  • Small repairs/painting/light maintenance
  • Lawn mowing, raking, snow removal based on seasonal needs
  • General grounds beautification
  • Inspections and annual facilities regulations
  • Light electrical, plumbing and renovation
  • Maintaining the composting space, turning it, keeping it clean, and performing a visual sweep of the site for trash
  • Three farm chore shifts including animal feeding
  • Manage and coordinate grain/hay/supplies needs with the farm coordinator
  • General oversight of needs in the farm and garden area, keeping the spaces tidy and organized, as much as they can be in a farm and garden workspace
  • An active member on the Facilities, Farm and Garden Committee
  • Coordination with the Farm and Garden teachers and Farm Coordinator
  • The ability to self reflect, strive to grow, and to be worthy of imitation
  • A strong work ethic and the eagerness to support a growing school
  • An ability to collaborate, independently manage, and contribute
  • A strength in developing partnerships with colleagues
  • Some meeting and event participation will be required such as Community Days (once quarterly), and Facilities Meetings.
  • A commitment to the children’s “real work” on the farm and in the garden
  • A commitment to be a steward of the land, leading by example and encouraging this mindset and way of being in the children and faculty. Such as, making sure children follow through with jobs, including putting tools back where they belong, taking the time to work with care and thoughtfulness
  • Monthly and situational communication updates with the faculty and staff about the farm and garden

This job may be part time to full time, with heightened seasonal work, per diem.
