CLASS TEACHER - SPLIT GRADE 2 / 3 CLASS

ACADEMIC YEAR 2023-2024

South Shore Waldorf School is warmly welcoming a new or experienced Waldorf teacher to take the 2 – 3 class at the beginning of the new school year, the start date for preparations is July 1st. The new school year begins September 5th 2023.

This class is made up of a lovely group of students and dedicated families, many of whom have been with the school for a number of years. 

We are seeking a class teacher with strong organizational and classroom management skills who can create a warm, gentle, and structured environment for children and can teach with confidence. As a Waldorf teacher, the candidate should feel comfortable in singing, handwork skills, art, and movement arts and enjoy the outdoors. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree, Waldorf teacher training, and experience teaching a Waldorf grades program. Candidates who have a serious interest in Waldorf education, are experienced educators, and have a willingness to attend teacher training will be considered.

Candidates should enjoy working as part of a team with teachers and parents in the day-to-day running of the school, a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, mentorship, and the willingness to enter wholeheartedly into the life of an alternative school community.

The successful candidate must have recent Vulnerable Sector Record and Child Abuse Record Checks and valid CPR-First Aid training (copies required at time of hiring).

RESPONSIBILITIES, SALARY AND BENEFITS

Responsibilities include planning and implementing the appropriate Waldorf curriculum for the class, communicating with parents and providing verbal reports during parent-teacher interviews and written end-of-year report cards.

In addition, expectations include collaborating with colleagues and attending faculty and other committee meetings, school events, seasonal fairs, and in-service training as required.

Classroom hours from September to June:

Monday to Thursday 8:00am – 3:15pm

Friday 8:00am – 1:45pm

Faculty Business Meetings are Thursdays 3:30 – 5:00pm

Study Meetings are Fridays 2:00 – 4:30pm

Responsibilities, salaries and benefits run from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024. This is a one-year contract with the possibility of renewal as we are hoping for the teacher to rise with the class into the upper grades. All new employees are subject to a 3-month probationary period.

Salary is determined based on qualifications and years of experience and is in the range of other Waldorf Schools in provinces that receive no government support. Faculty receive tuition adjustments for their children who attend our school.

There are a variety of farmer’s markets where fresh organic and biodynamic produce is on offer. The charming small town of Mahone Bay is within walking distance, and we are about an hour from the city of Halifax. 

SSWS is an AWSNA Associate Member and a Full Member of WECAN. There is an active Anthroposophical community.

SSWS is faculty-led with a teaching staff of ten, strongly supported by a highly engaged parent body, a small administrative team, and an active board of trustees.
