The South Shore Waldorf School is currently seeking a full time Kindergarten Co-Teacher for the beginning of the new school year, the start date for preparations is July 1st. The new school year begins September 5th 2023. The successful candidate will have Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher training and experience teaching in a Waldorf kindergarten program. Candidates who have a serious interest in Waldorf education, are experienced educators, and have a willingness to attend teacher training will be considered. Experience working with small children is essential. Musical, artistic, and storytelling abilities are an asset. Candidates should have a team spirit enabling them to work closely with the Faculty, Administration and Board in the running of the school, a commitment to ongoing personal and professional development and a willingness to enter wholeheartedly into the life of an alternative school community.
RESPONSIBILITIES, SALARY AND BENEFITS
Responsibilities and Salaries run from July 1 2023 - June 30th 2024. All new employees are subject to a 3-month probationary period.
Salary is determined based on qualifications and years of experience and is in the range of other Waldorf Schools in provinces that receive no government support. The school offers benefits, mentoring, and tuition reductions for faculty children. There are also funds available to help support professional development.
Responsibilities include working collaboratively with the other kindergarten teacher in a mixed-age kindergarten ages 3 1/2 to 7. Taking turns bringing stories, circle time and crafts that support the development of all the children and assisting to develop and implement a curriculum that supports the rising grade ones. Additional expectations include: communicating with parents and providing verbal reports during parent teacher interviews, attending faculty meetings, school events, seasonal fairs and in-service training as required, also assisting in meal preparation, domestic duties of the kindergarten and purchasing of supplies and documentation of expenses. This position will be a blend of co teacher/assistant as the new teacher becomes accustomed to the classroom and the rhythm of the day.
Classroom hours September to June: 8:30 – 3:15, Teachers are required to come in early to prepare the classroom space and snack to have it ready for when classes begin.
Faculty Business Meetings are Thursday 3:30 – 5:00 PM
Faculty Study Meetings are Friday 2:00 - 4:30 PM
The successful applicant will need to complete a vulnerable sector record check and child abuse registry search (copies required at the time of hiring).
