Farm and Forest Pre-K Lead Teacher
The pre-K lead teacher will be expected to have the skills and qualities necessary to run a Waldorf early-childhood program that takes place outdoors for a large portion of every day. The pre-K program is a transitional program that meets the needs of children that have outgrown the nursery, but are not yet ready for a full day of farm-and-forest kindergarten. The program runs from 8:15 to 2:15.
Responsibilities include:
- Creating a loving, child-centered learning experience based on Waldorf pedagogy
- Giving clear Instructions to the assistant teacher and substitutes
- Taking children on outdoor adventures that are fun and safe
- Leading children in farming activities (gardening, collecting eggs, foraging)
- Planning and preparing food (snacks)
- Communicating appropriately with parents
- Hosting regularly-scheduled parent education gatherings
- Collaborating with colleagues, particularly the early childhood faculty
- Attending weekly faculty meetings
- Participating in school events (work days, festivals, fundraising events)
- Helping to maintain the common areas (kitchen, mudroom)
Ideal qualifications:
- Waldorf training and/or experience working in a Waldorf school
- Early childhood teaching experience, especially for preschool-aged children
- Experience in working with children outdoors and enthusiasm for nature-based education
- Experience and interest in working collaboratively
- Excellent communication skills
