Director of Enrollment and Outreach
Rudolf Steiner School is seeking a Director of Enrollment and Outreach to join its senior administrative team for the 2023-2024 school year. The Director of Enrollment and Outreach is responsible for enrollment in Nursery through Grade 12. The position supports the school by promoting effective recruitment and student selection, admissions, initial and continuous enrollment, and retention of students for all grades. The position supports strategic enrollment planning and management efforts developing the necessary processes, communicating them to the school community and the community at large. This position engages directly with relevant organizations such as NYSAIS, ISAAGNY, The Parent’s League, among others, and is the school’s liaison with placement and Enrollment Directors in other independent schools.
The Director of Enrollment and Outreach cultivates Parent-School relationships by working responsively and collaboratively to ensure a culture of mutual respect, open communication, and healthy boundaries among the adults in the community. The Director of Enrollment and Outreach works closely with and reports to the School Administrator, supervises the Enrollment Associate, and works within the scope of the strategic plan to support the school's educational mission.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include:
ENROLLMENT & OUTREACH
- Develop and implement processes that support the Enrollment and Outreach operation, and the strategic enrollment management plan
- Represent and describe the school to prospective students and their families. Direct contact primarily through phone/zoom conversations, one-on-one meetings and outreach events and activities
- Work collaboratively with faculty, parent, and student ambassadors. Coordinate outreach schedule and visits to feeder schools
- Collaborate with faculty in designing and coordinating Open Houses and Tours/Orientations
- Manage school retention efforts with a special focus on transitions and respond promptly to student/parent concerns
- Work collaboratively with the Digital Media Manager in the development of promotional materials that interpret the school to prospective students (advertising, direct mail, web page, experiential opportunities)
- Collaborate with the Parent Council Co-Chairs and Leadership Council in strengthening community relations and increasing awareness of Waldorf education
- Manage the admissions process from point of inquiry through enrollment
- Manage the Financial Aid program, implementing processes between school and parents. Make proposals for awards and organize meetings with the Tuition Assistance Committee
RETENTION
- Manage the re- enrollment process of current students for the succeeding year
- Ensure re-enrollment is timely, professional and responsive to parent concerns
- Manage the exit process including initiating correspondence with families, conducting exit interviews and disseminating the results
- Work with members of the Leadership Council to develop and facilitate key School-wide retention initiatives
- Ensure all new families are properly welcomed and integrated into the School community by collaborating with faculty, room parents and the Parent Council in coordinating welcome and orientation activities; this includes planning and facilitating the New Family Welcome events and overseeing the buddy program
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will possess the following skills, abilities, and qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in related field
- 5+ years of administrative experience in an educational setting, with at least 2 years in a leadership capacity
- At least two years of admissions experience is required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of Waldorf education and/or Rudolf Steiner teaching philosophy
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Knowledge of Waldorf and urban education is highly desirable
- A theoretical and practical understanding of human development
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong leadership, cross-cultural and interpersonal skills, and a cooperative approach to handling conflict
- Ability to respond effectively in highly sensitive situations while maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound judgment
- Ability to interact with individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds and maintain an objective understanding of different perspectives
- Ability to handle complex and controversial situations
- Experience in strategic planning and execution
- Experience with statistics, research methodology, and assessment
- Knowledge of computerized information systems used in educational applications; experience with Blackbaud’s Education Edge a plus
- Ability to work successfully in a multi-faceted and occasionally high stress environment handling multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Willingness to work extended hours during peak recruitment and admissions seasons, including evenings and weekends
- Ability to work within the governance structure of the Rudolf Steiner School’s collaborative leadership model, motivating and facilitating teamwork within the three realms of Administration, Faculty and Board of Trustees
